Rajvila Communal Attack
On 10/10/2002 at around 12 noon a group of Bengali Muslim numbering 200-250 led by Bahadur, Nasir Uddin, s/o Amin, Mansur Ali, s/o latr Ali Akbar, Osman, Didar, s/o Fullaiya of village Dut Pukuria, Bridge Ghata, Union: Padua, Sub-district: Rangunia, District: Chittagong attacked and burnt the village Rajbila Indigenous village, Rajbila mouza, Rajbila union under Bandarban sadar thana in Bandarban Hill District. In this incident they Bengali set fire on 11 houses and destroyed around 100 houses. The attackers also took away valuables such as furniture, cows, goats, paddy, rice etc. from 100 houses. In this attack a couple of villagers received injuries and were handed over to the police.
It is to be mentioned that, on that day, a Bengali middleman trader name Shamsul Islam (31), who is known as man of bad character went to the village and tried to abuse Ms Ang Mra Ching Marma. To escape from the abuse of Shamsul Islam, Ms. Marma cried and the villagers gathered and made attack on Mr. Islam where Mr. Islam died on the spot. In retaliation of that killing, the Bengali Muslim made the attack on the indigenous village.
After that incident the villagers left the village for security purpose and returned to the village recently. Now the villagers are staying under the open sky without shelter. It is blamed that the police forces were seen inactive during the attack. The following persons were injured and handed over to the police and sent to jail:
- Mr. Athui Mong Marma (Swapan) (22), s/o Thuicha Prue Marma, village: Rajbilla Nich Para, Union: Rajbilla, Sub-district: Bandarban of Bandarban Hill District,
- Mr. Mong Sa Nue Marma (42) s/o Ang Kya Jai member of village: Rajbilla Nich Para, Union: Rajbilla, Sub-district: Bandarban of Bandarban Hill District, the victim is a health inspector.
- Mr. Aung Kya Jai Member (60) s/o late Thoai Hla Prue Marma of village: Rajbilla Nich Para, Union: Rajbilla, Sub-district: Bandarban of Bandarban Hill District.
