Innocent school teacher and public representative arrested by army in Baghaichari
On 2 August 2006 at night around 2.00 a.m. a group of army from Karengatali army camp under Baghaihat army zone in Rangamati arrested a newly appointed innocent teacher of Rupali Government Primary School named Mr. Pragati Chakma (32) and a public representative named Mr. Suman Chakma (35), Member of Marishya union from the house of latter. They along with 9 round of bullets were handed over to Baghaichari police station in connection with arm case. However, no bullet with them has been recovered during the arrest. Mrs Bidushi Chakma, w/o Suman Chakma alleged that gold ornaments including chain, finger ring, earring and bangle, 4 wristwatches and Tk. 40,170 have been looted by the army during the assault. The local people brought out procession in Baghaichari upazila headquarters protesting against the arrest and submitted memorandum to the UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) demanding immediate release of innocent arrested persons and to stop such inhuman atrocity in CHT. Later on 7 August the arrested persons were released on bail from Rangamati magistrate court.
