A Jumma woman killed brutally in Kamalchari of Khagrachari
On 1 October 2011 a Jumma woman named Mrs. Protima Chakma (32) w/o Mr. Priti Bikash Chakma of village- Kamalchari of Kamalchari union under Khagrachari sadar upazila of Khagrachari hill district was brutally killed by unknown miscreant. Her body mutilated in neck and fastened two legs was found at a narrow stream adjacent to Ghat Ghar of Kamalchari Mukh about half a kilometer away from their house at about 8:00 pm. It is believed that victim Protima Chakma was killed after rape by Bengali settler.
It is learnt that on that day at early morning husband of Mrs. Protima Chakma went to work to their crop-land at Upper Pera Chara area about a kilometer away from their house. Later Mrs. Protima also went there to his husband with meal. After making her husband takes meal, Mrs. Protima left their crop-land for house at about 10:00 am. But she did not return house.
In the evening, sensing danger with Mrs. Protima, villagers including her relatives got out for searching. At a stage of searching, at about 8:00 pm the villagers recovered the dead body of Protima Chakma and then they brought it to the victim’s house.
At about 11:00 pm police and army members came to the house of the victim and took away the body to Khagrachari Police Station and on the next morning the body was sent to Khagrachari General Hospital for autopsy.
It is mentionable that the area across which Mrs. Protima went was almost a lonely and desolate area. Some Bengali settlers of nearby Bhuo Chari settler area (though it is about 3/4 kilometers away from the spot) often come here to cut grass for their cattle. It is believed that she might have been killed by some one of Bengali settlers. It is also mentionable that on that day Mrs. Protima was wearing a necklace made of gold. This necklace was not found when the body was recovered. That necklace also might be a cause of the killing.
While preparing the report, it is learnt that a case was filed against 2 persons belong to Bengali settlers of Bhuo Chari area with the Khagrachari police station. Name of one of them is Rafiq.
